3 car thruway accident leads to multiple injuries

When multiple vehicles are moving at a high rate of speed within close proximity of each other, there is always a chance of an accident. This is even more so the case if one of the drivers is distracted by something that is going on around them.

An accident that happened on Sunday, Dec. 22, 2013 on the New York State Thruway involved three cars and led to multiple injuries. At this point, authorities do not believe that weather conditions had anything to do with the cause of the accident. New York State Troopers feel that the chain reaction crash may have been caused by distracted driving. It is believed that the roadway was dry at the time of the collision.

When the accident occurred at approximately 6:30 p.m., traffic was stop-and-go. It was then that the driver of one car hit another from behind. This forced the second car into the rear-end of a third vehicle.

The driver of the first vehicle was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital for treatment of serious injuries. The driver of the second vehicle was treated as well, and the driver of the third car escaped without injury.

As a result of the accident, this part of the Thruway was closed for approximately 30 minutes. During this time, police conducted an investigation and cleared the scene of any debris.

A car accident can happen at anytime, and this story shows why distracted driving is a big deal.
