It is not uncommon for an auto accident to involve multiple vehicles, including cars, trucks and buses. In situations where multiple vehicles are involved, with one being larger than the rest, such as a truck, the end result oftentimes involves serious injuries or even death.
During the early morning hours of Sept. 24, 2013, two Infiniti sports cars were alongside each other on a highway in the Bronx. When one of the vehicles collided with a large UPS tractor trailer, it led to a chain reaction that subsequently killed the driver and injured his passenger.
The other car involved in the accident lost control, eventually colliding with another truck. The driver of the fled the scene on foot; however, he left his driver’s license behind. Authorities are currently seeking his whereabouts.
The force of the collision caused the UPS tractor trailer to collide with a second truck. When everything came to a stop, the two large trucks had pinned one of the vehicles against a wall, which crushed its cabin.
The injured passenger in the Infiniti, a 23-year-old woman, was transported to the hospital. Officials have reported that she is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The two truck drivers were not injured.
Police are still unsure of whether the drivers knew each other or how fast they were driving. An investigation is underway to determine if the two drivers were racing each other at the time of the accident. If that is determined to be a factor in the accident, the driver who survived the crash could be held liable for the other driver’s death, the woman’s injuries and all damages to the vehicles. Regardless of the cause, this story goes to show how important it is to pay attention to what other drivers are doing at all times.
