Many people are involved in a car accident due to no fault of their own. On the other side of things, there are situations in which one of the drivers was operating his or her vehicle under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
Kerry Kennedy, the famous daughter of Robert F. Kennedy, as well as the former wife of New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, was involved in a car accident in 2012. Her DWI trial has finally come around, and there is talk that she could take the witness stand as things begin to heat up in the courtroom.
She is faced with a misdemeanor charge of driving while intoxicated in July 2012 when she allegedly swerved between lanes, eventually colliding with a tractor-trailer. According to testimony, she was able to drive away from the scene, however, she was later found collapsed over the steering wheel.
Kennedy maintains her innocence, stating that she was not driving under the influence but believes she may have mixed up medication in the morning, taking zolpidem instead of her thyroid medication. A later blood test did confirm the presence of zolpidem, a high-powered sleeping aid.
This incident was big news in 2012 when it was first brought to light, and many have been waiting for Kennedy to go to trial. While nobody knows for sure what is going to happen in the courtroom, if Kennedy takes the stand things could become even more interesting.
Fortunately for Kennedy, she was not injured in the accident. Incidents in which somebody is injured in a car accident often lead to a personal injury attorney being hired.
