Drive Carefully: More New York Car Accidents Predicted Over Holiday

During Labor Day weekend, the traditional last weekend of summer, many people are off to enjoy extra time with family or friends. Unfortunately, this increased traffic also leads to a rise in car accidents and fatalities.

INRX, a supplier of traffic forecasts and data, ranks New York City as the country’s worst city for motorists during the Labor Day holiday. Experts warn of increased traffic, road construction projects and delays due to crashes.

“The traditional end-of-summer weekend is historically one of the busiest and deadliest times on U.S. roadways,” notes the non-profit Traffic Safety Council. Sadly, by Monday afternoon the National Safety Council predicts 400 people across the U.S. will have lost their lives in traffic accidents, and over 40,000 will be injured.

According to AAA, over 28 million Americans will hit the road over the long weekend. Drivers should remember to stay focused on the road, allow for plenty of time for delays and make plans for a sober ride home if celebrations include alcohol. All drivers and passengers should always wear their seat belt. The National Safety Council predicts that 148 people will survive a car crash this weekend because they remembered to buckle up.

If you or a loved one is injured in a car accident due to someone else’s negligence you have a right to be compensated for your injuries. An experienced New York car accident attorney can advise you of potential claims, and advocate on your behalf to help ensure those responsible are held accountable.
