Fatal NYC crash caused by wrong-way driver

Driving the wrong direction on any roadway, regardless of the city and traffic pattern, can lead to serious injury and even death. This was the case in a recent car accident on the Tappan Zee Bridge in New York City.

Last week, a wrong-way driver crashed into an oncoming vehicle on the bridge. This led to the death of a passenger, as well as a five car pileup. In addition to injuries, the northbound lanes of the thruway were forced to close for several hours, according to New York State police.

Following the accident, motorists on the bridge got out of their vehicles and watched as the involved parties were treated for injuries. As nightfall came, police continued to investigate the accident with the assistance of floodlights.

Several people were injured as a result of the accident, including the person driving the wrong-way vehicle among many others. All of those injured in the accident were taken to local hospitals for treatment.

Police are investigating whether or not drugs or alcohol played a role in the accident. State police said they received notice of a driver traveling south on the northbound lanes of the bridge a few minutes before 9:00 p.m. This report was received several seconds before they were notified of the crash.

The driver of the wrong way vehicle was able to access the highway using an off ramp in South Nyack. A witness said he was exciting the thruway that night when a Ford Explorer began to travel toward him in the wrong direction.

Anybody who has been involved in a car accident caused by the negligence of a third party should contact an experienced personal injury attorney. You may be able to receive compensation for your injuries as well as other damages.
