New York nursing home hit with a lawsuit for hiring stripper

When it comes to nursing home abuse, many people automatically assume that this always has something to do with physical abuse or negligence. While this is typically the case, there are other types of abuse that can lead to trouble for the establishment in question. That trouble includes civil litigation.

A lawsuit filed last month claims that an 85-year-old woman and former patient at the East Neck Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in West Babylon, New York, was subjected to an unwanted performance by a stripper.

According to the lawsuit, the woman’s son came across a photograph last year of the male stripper making inappropriate movements in front his mother. The photo was taken in September 2012 and also shows other patients present at the time.

The lawsuit notes that a nurse claims the performance by the stripper was part of an event scheduled by the nursing home. Along with this, a lawyer representing the East Neck Nursing and Rehabilitation Center said that residents approved the performance.

This may not be the type of nursing home abuse that many people think about, but it has led to serious issues for the patient, her family and the establishment that oversaw the activity.

When a loved one is being taken care of at a nursing home, his or her family believes that they will be treated with respect at all times. This story shows that nursing homes can make poor decisions. As a result of this decision, the East Neck Nursing and Rehabilitation Center has found itself in the middle of a serious lawsuit.
